TRANSIT FAQ

Transit Home - FAQ - Transit Providers

How do I transfer from one bus to another?
When you board the first bus, pay your fare and ask the operator for a transfer. When you board the second bus, use the transfer just like an activated ticket. If you will be riding more than one system, buy a regional day pass for $4 to save money! You CANNOT use a transfer to change from one bus system to another system (example: from CAT to TTA). Buy a regional day pass instead of paying full price for both systems' tickets. Buy now online or learn more about how to pay your fare.

Can I bring my bike on the bus?
All TTA, CAT, DATA and Chapel Hill Transit buses can carry two bikes. Learn more about how you can safely stow your bike on a bus.

How do I get to the airport?
Getting to RDU is now easier and more convenient than ever! It's as easy as hopping on a bus to the TTA Bus Transfer Center in RTP, then boarding the 747 Shuttle to the airport. The 747 Shuttle runs every 30 minutes from 6:15-9:15 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. - 5:50 p.m . It runs once an hour from 10:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. - 10:20 p.m . It does not run on Sundays. How to go to and from the airport.

What if there isn't a stop near my house?
Try a park-n-ride lot. The idea behind a park-n-ride lot is that you can drive part of the way to your destination, park in one of these lots, and pick up the bus from there. Check out a list of park-n-ride lots in the Triangle.

How will the rail work with buses?
When the regional rail runs through the Triangle, it will connect Durham, RTP, Cary and Raleigh . All regional bus systems have done extensive planning to ensure a speedy trip from the rail stations to popular local destinations.

How do I read a schedule?
First, make sure you have selected the correct schedule(s). Do you have the right day of week? (Monday - Friday, Saturday or Sunday). For some systems, such as TTA, there is a separate brochure for Saturdays. Learn more about the various hours of operation for the Triangle bus services.

Second, find the section of the schedule that meets your needs. Look for either AM or PM travel times and make sure you are reading the schedule in the correct direction (the bus travels from the stop listed at the left to the stops listed at the right).

Third, find the stop location on the map (called a time point) that is nearest to your actual desired departure location, and then look up that time point on the schedule. Departure times are listed below the time point names. Remember that the listed departure time is only for that specific time point. The bus will also make other stops between time points. If you plan to get on the bus at a stop between two time points, you'll need to adjust the time accordingly.

TIP: It's always a good idea to arrive at your stop 10 minutes early.

When reading the schedule, remember that the times are listed from left to right. Your arrival time will be to the right of your departure time. Please check the map and schedule again prior to your return trip.

My bus schedule is changing, where do I learn about the changes?
The best source of this information is the individual transit agency's websites or customer service personnel. Click here!

What if there is severe weather? How will I know if the buses are still running?
Look in the Important News & Alerts box.

What if I have an emergency and can't wait for a bus?
Sign up for an Emergency Ride Home. It's easy and free. The TTA will pay for your cab ride or rental car on any day you take a commute alternative to work (biked, walked, rode the bus, carpooled or vanpooled) to get you where you need to be FAST.
