Best Workplaces for Commuters

The Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC) program recognizes employers whose outstanding commuter benefits significantly reduce traffic and air pollution and improve health and the quality of life for Triangle commuters.

The first Triangle Best Workplaces for Commuters employers were designated in 2004 and the list continues to grow.  Several SmartCommute@rtp member companies have the BWC designation:  BASF, Cato Research, Cisco, EMC, GSK, IBM, NIEHS, Nortel, Research Triangle Foundation, RTI International, Syngenta, and US EPA.

The focus of the program is to increase the number of employer-based transportation programs aimed at reducing vehicle miles traveled (VMTs) and air pollution by identifying innovative solutions to commuter needs.

A team of regional transportation demand management (TDM) coordinators (Triangle Transit, UNC – CH, Town of Chapel Hill, and SmartCommute@rtp) is looking into other forms of recognition for companies in the Triangle, including the annual GoTriangle Commuter Awards Program.
